Clear Spark Cache on Mac

You can clear the cache from inside the app if its settings offer that option, or by moving the cache folders to the Trash after quitting. Clearing helps when mail search is slow or the Group Container has grown to several gigabytes. Readdle has replaced this app with Spark Desktop, and the original is now called Spark Classic, so check which version you have first.

Spark cache folders you can clear

Spark has no separate cache folder. Its folders hold settings and your own data, so there is nothing to clear safely by hand.

What the Spark cache holds and when clearing helps

Specific to Spark

The Group Container folder holds a local copy of your mail, attachments and account data, and it is the part that usually grows large. Sandboxed settings and caches sit in the Containers folder, while the Application Scripts folder is created by macOS for sandbox scripts. Your mail stays on the mail server, so the local copy can be rebuilt. Typical data for this app runs from 500 MB – 10 GB, and clearing is worth trying when search is slow or the Group Container is several gigabytes.

What happens after you clear the Spark cache

The local cache is rebuilt from the mail server, so the first start is slower while mail downloads again. Your settings sync through your Spark account, so sign in again only if the app asks you to. Premium is a subscription tied to your Spark account and is not cancelled by clearing files. Items you moved to the Trash can be restored until you empty it.

Frequently asked questions

Yes.
Does clearing the cache cancel Premium?
No. Premium is a subscription tied to your account, and removing app files does not cancel it.
Why is the first start slow after clearing?
The local cache has to be rebuilt from the mail server, so mail downloads again before everything appears.
