Clear it from inside Xcode first

The safest way is the option built into the app: Product > Clean Build Folder clears the current project's build products only; it does not touch other projects in DerivedData, simulator runtimes, archives or iOS DeviceSupport.

Xcode cache folders you can clear

These folders are rebuilt automatically, so removing them does not touch your own files.

Understanding the Xcode cache

Specific to Xcode

The app stores intermediate build files, indexes, and device symbols that grow over time. Clearing helps if builds behave strangely, indexing never finishes, or the simulator list shows many old devices. While some folders hold your own data or settings, others are rebuilt automatically by the system.

What happens after clearing Xcode

Rebuildable caches will regenerate automatically the next time you launch a project. This results in a slower first start and longer initial build times as indexes are recreated. You will not need to sign in again because account settings and certificates remain untouched.

Does cleaning the build folder remove all DerivedData?
No, it only clears the current project's build products and ignores other projects.
Will removing simulator caches delete my tested apps?
Removing CoreSimulator/Caches is safe, but deleting Devices removes installed apps and test data.
