What happens when you remove Capture One

Specific to Capture One

Dragging the app to the Trash does not delete your catalogs, sessions, or support folders. These files remain because they contain your unique work and preferences, often occupying 2 GB – 100 GB of space. To fully clear the system, you must manually navigate to the hidden Library folder via Finder > Go > Go to Folder to remove caches and app data.

License
Activation is tied to your Capture One account and limited to a number of computers.
Account and sync
Capture One subscriptions and licences are linked to a Capture One account.

Preparing for the removal of Capture One

Before deleting the software, ensure you have secured your creative assets. Since adjustments and previews are stored within individual catalogs and sessions rather than the main app folder, these must be handled separately. Deactivating the license ensures your account seat is available for another computer.

Frequently asked questions

Not all of them. Folders marked “Back up first: your data” hold your own Capture One data: back them up before removing them. Folders marked “Yes, rebuilt automatically” are rebuilt automatically; removing them only makes the next start slower. Items marked “Yes, once the app is gone” only matter while Capture One is installed, so remove them after the app.
Will deleting the app also remove my original photos?
No, originals stay where they were imported; only the app itself is removed.
Why is my catalog folder still taking up so much space?
The app keeps previews and cache inside each catalog or session folder.
