How to Completely Uninstall Minecraft on Mac

To uninstall Minecraft completely, you must remove both the application and its associated data folders. Dragging the app to the Trash alone does not delete your personal files or system data.

What Minecraft leaves behind

Specific to Minecraft

Moving the app to the Trash preserves a data folder in Application Support containing between 500 MB – 20 GB of information. This includes irreplaceable user data like worlds and screenshots, alongside settings and app data such as Java runtimes and versions. Other items, including logs, web cache, and assets, are simply rebuilt automatically if the software is ever returned.

Account and sync
Minecraft Java Edition is tied to your Microsoft account; single-player worlds are stored only on the Mac unless you use Realms.

Preparing to remove Minecraft

Because single-player worlds are stored only on your Mac unless you use Realms, you must manually secure them. Your account is tied to a Microsoft account, but local files remain on the disk. Ensure you have copied all custom content since deleting the support folder permanently removes these files.

Frequently asked questions

Not all of them. Folders marked “Back up first: your data” hold your own Minecraft data: back them up before removing them. Folders marked “Yes, rebuilt automatically” are rebuilt automatically; removing them only makes the next start slower. Items marked “Yes, once the app is gone” only matter while Minecraft is installed, so remove them after the app.
Where are my world saves located?
They are stored in ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/saves.
Will my account be deleted if I remove the app?
No, because the Java Edition account is tied to your Microsoft account.
