Manual cleanup steps

  2. Move Sketch from the Applications folder to the Trash.
  3. Remove the folders Sketch left behind, listed in the table below.
  4. Empty the Trash to free up the space.

Locations are the standard macOS folders Sketch uses; some appear only after you use the matching feature.

What Sketch leaves behind

Specific to Sketch

Dragging the app to the Trash does not delete your documents or supporting folders. Your preferences, cached data, and the folder containing plugins and templates remain on your system. These items stay until you manually navigate to the hidden ~/Library folder via Finder to remove them.

License
Sketch uses a licence key or a workspace subscription linked to your Sketch account.
Account and sync
Workspace documents are stored in your Sketch account; local .sketch files are separate.

Preparing to uninstall Sketch

Before removal, ensure all workspace documents are synced or downloaded locally. Since the app stores plugins and templates in a specific support folder, back those up if needed. You should also export necessary colour presets and shared libraries while the software is still active.

Frequently asked questions

Not all of them. Folders marked “Back up first: your data” hold your own Sketch data: back them up before removing them. Folders marked “Yes, rebuilt automatically” are rebuilt automatically; removing them only makes the next start slower. Folders marked “Yes, settings reset” hold settings, which return to their defaults. Items marked “Yes, once the app is gone” only matter while Sketch is installed, so remove them after the app.
Will my license be deleted?
No, your license key or workspace subscription is linked to your account rather than the local installation.
What happens to my .sketch files?
Local documents are stored wherever you chose to save them and are not affected by removing the app.
