Clear Fantastical Cache on Mac

Clear the cache only if events appear late or twice, or the cache folder has grown unusually large. Check whether the app offers a reset in its own settings first, since that is the safest route. Your events stay in your iCloud, Google, or Exchange accounts either way.

Fantastical cache folders you can clear

Fantastical has no separate cache folder. Its folders hold settings and your own data, so there is nothing to clear safely by hand.

What the Fantastical cache holds and when clearing it helps

Specific to Fantastical

The app shows events from your calendar accounts, so its data folders hold a cache of those events plus its settings, not the calendars themselves. The main folder is ~/Library/Containers/com.flexibits.fantastical2.mac, and the related folders are shared with the menu bar helper and macOS. Clearing helps when events appear late or duplicated, or when that folder is unusually large. If none of these signs apply, the cache is probably not the cause.

What happens after you clear the Fantastical cache

The app rebuilds its calendar cache from your accounts the next time it opens, so the first start will be slower than usual. Your events are not lost, because they stay in iCloud, Google, or Exchange. Settings sync through your Flexibits account, so if sync is on they should return once you sign in there; otherwise you may need to set them again. Your Fantastical Premium subscription stays linked to your account and is not cancelled.

Frequently asked questions

Yes.
Will I need to add my calendar accounts again?
Usually not, because the app reloads events from those accounts once the cache rebuilds. Check that each account still shows up in the calendar list after the first launch.
How long does the first start take after clearing?
It depends on how many events your accounts hold, so expect a slower launch for a short while. If events are still late after the cache rebuilds, the cause may lie elsewhere.
