Clear Fortnite Cache on Mac

Clearing the Fortnite cache frees space and can fix slow starts without touching your account. Epic stopped updating the native Mac version after its dispute with Apple, so the app can no longer be played, and clearing the cache will not change that.

Fortnite cache folders you can clear

Fortnite has no separate cache folder. Its folders hold settings and your own data, so there is nothing to clear safely by hand.

What the Fortnite cache holds

Specific to Fortnite

The cache sits in the Epic folder inside your Library, alongside game settings, logs and replays. Game files installed by the Epic Games Launcher live in the shared Epic Games folder, and a leftover install there can take a lot of room, since its data can run 2 GB – 50 GB. Clearing helps when the Saved folder or old game files remain long after you last played, or when the app is using more space than you expect. Replays you recorded are stored in the Saved folder, so leave that folder alone.

What happens after you clear the Fortnite cache

The app rebuilds its cache the next time it runs, so the first launch afterwards will be slower than usual. Your skins, V-Bucks and progress belong to your Epic Games account rather than the Mac, so they are not lost. You may be asked to sign in again, depending on how the app stores your login. Your replays and settings in the Saved folder stay where they are, and the freed space will fill again as the cache refills.

Frequently asked questions

Yes.
Will my skins and V-Bucks be gone after clearing?
No. They belong to your Epic Games account, not the Mac, so clearing the cache does not affect them.
Why is the first start slower after I clear the cache?
The app has to rebuild its cache from scratch, which takes extra time the first time it launches.
