Clear Lightroom CC Cache on Mac

Clearing the Lightroom CC cache frees space by reducing the local copies of your photos, and your originals stay safe. Start inside the app under Lightroom > Settings > Local Storage, where you can lower the cache size or stop storing originals. Unsynced photos are kept either way.

Clear it from inside Lightroom CC first

The safest way is the option built into the app: Lightroom > Settings > Local Storage (lower the cache size or stop storing originals; unsynced photos are kept)

Lightroom CC cache folders you can clear

Lightroom CC has no separate cache folder. Its folders hold settings and your own data, so there is nothing to clear safely by hand.

What the Lightroom CC cache holds

Specific to Lightroom CC

The main cache is the Lightroom Library bundle in your Pictures folder. It holds local copies of cloud photos, previews and pending uploads, and it grows large when local copies of all originals are kept. Clearing helps when that bundle is taking up much of your disk, which can be anywhere from 5 GB – 100 GB. Check its size first and make sure no imports are waiting to sync.

What happens after you clear the Lightroom CC cache

Once everything has synced, the bundle can be rebuilt, so clearing it does not cost you your cloud library. Unsynced imports exist only in the bundle, so confirm they have uploaded before you clear anything. Creative Cloud components and sign-in data are shared with other Adobe apps and stay in place. Your originals remain in Adobe cloud storage tied to your Adobe ID.

Frequently asked questions

Yes.
Can I keep using Lightroom CC with a smaller cache?
Yes. Photos that are not stored locally remain in Adobe cloud storage once they have synced.
Do I need to uninstall Lightroom CC to get the space back?
No. Clearing the cache inside the app is enough, and deleting the app does not remove the library bundle or your documents.
