Clear Mattermost Cache on Mac

Clearing the Mattermost cache removes temporary files that the app downloads again on its own, so you get space back without losing messages or files. Check first whether the app offers its own cache option, since that is the safest route. If you clear the files by hand, remove only the cache subfolders described below.

Mattermost cache folders you can clear

These folders are rebuilt automatically, so removing them does not touch your own files.

Locations are the standard macOS folders Mattermost uses; some appear only after you use the matching feature.

What the Mattermost cache holds

Specific to Mattermost

Most of the space sits in the Mattermost folder in your Library, which stores the server list, sessions and cached web content. Its Cache, Code Cache and GPUCache subfolders hold downloaded web files, compiled scripts and graphics data, and the logs folder holds app logs. Clearing helps when pages show old content, load slowly, or fail after sign-in, or when your Mac is short on space. Your messages and files stay on your organization's server, so the Mac keeps only these caches and the server list.

What happens after you clear the Mattermost cache

The app rebuilds each cache the next time it runs, so the first start will be slower while web content is downloaded again. Your server list stays in place, so you won't need to add your servers again. Because you only clear the cache subfolders, your sign-in is usually unchanged, but if you are asked to sign in, do so with your usual account. Your messages and files are unaffected because they remain on the server.
