The app stores temporary web storage, sign-in data, and cached messages locally, typically ranging from 500 MB – 5 GB. You should clear this if the app shows old messages, fails to load chats, or if legacy folders from the older version remain. Because chats and files live in your Microsoft 365 account or SharePoint, removing these local caches does not delete your actual conversations or documents.
After clearing Microsoft Teams data
Once the folders are removed, the app will rebuild its cache upon next launch. This usually results in a slower first start as it re-downloads necessary assets. Depending on which folder was cleared, you may need to sign in again. Your personal settings and account history remain intact because they are synced to the cloud.
