Clear Opera Cache on Mac

Clearing the Opera cache frees space and fixes stale pages without touching your bookmarks, passwords or history. Use the app's own clear-data option first if it has one, and remove the cache folder only when that is not enough. The steps below show what changes afterwards.

Opera cache folders you can clear

These folders are rebuilt automatically, so removing them does not touch your own files.

Locations are the standard macOS folders Opera uses; some appear only after you use the matching feature.

What the Opera cache holds

Specific to Opera

The cache holds web pages, images and scripts that the browser saved so sites load faster, along with a GPU shader cache and offline files that websites store through service workers. Clearing it helps when pages show outdated content, the browser starts slowly, or the cache folder has grown large. Typical data for the app takes up 200 MB – 2 GB, and the cache is often the part that keeps growing.

What happens after you clear Opera

Opera rebuilds its cache automatically as you browse, so the first start may be slower and some pages may load more slowly at first. Your history, bookmarks, passwords, cookies and extensions sit in the profile folder and stay where they are. If you sync with an account, synced items return after you sign in; without one, they exist only in the local profile.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Folders marked “Yes, rebuilt automatically” are rebuilt automatically; removing them only makes the next start slower.
Will I need to sign in again after clearing the cache?
Usually not, because cookies sit in the profile rather than the cache. If you sync with an account, your bookmarks and passwords return after you sign in.
Can I undo clearing the cache?
Removed items can be restored from the Trash until it is emptied. Even without restoring, the cache rebuilds on its own as you browse.
