Clear TextMate Cache on Mac

To clear the cache, quit the app, move only its cache folder to the Trash, and reopen it. The app rebuilds that folder on its own, and your bundles and settings are not touched.

TextMate cache folders you can clear

These folders are rebuilt automatically, so removing them does not touch your own files.

Locations are the standard macOS folders TextMate uses; some appear only after you use the matching feature.

What the TextMate cache holds

Specific to TextMate

The cache lives at ~/Library/Caches/com.macromates.TextMate and holds temporary app data that the app rebuilds automatically. It does not hold your work. Clearing it makes sense when the app feels slow, shows odd display behaviour, or acts strangely after an update. Your own bundle copies stay in the support folder, and per-folder settings are plain .tm_properties files, so neither is affected by this step.

What happens after you clear the TextMate cache

The next time you open the app, it builds a fresh cache, so the first start usually takes a little longer than normal. Your editor settings, installed and managed bundles, and your own bundle copies stay where they are. Saved window positions are stored in a separate file and are not part of the cache, so windows should reopen as they did. Nothing in this step removes your files.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Folders marked “Yes, rebuilt automatically” are rebuilt automatically; removing them only makes the next start slower.
Can I undo this if the cache was not the problem?
Yes. Items in the Trash can be restored until the Trash is emptied, and the app will rebuild its cache either way.
Will clearing the cache remove my installed bundles?
No. Installed and managed bundles are kept in the support folder, which this step does not touch.
