What the Transmission cache holds

The cache folder in your Library holds temporary app data that Transmission rebuilds automatically, so clearing it is low risk. Your torrent list and resume data are kept in a separate Application Support folder, and your settings, download folder and speed limits live in a preferences file, so leave both alone. Your downloaded files go to your chosen download folder, which is where most of the 200 MB – 5 GB typical size comes from. If your disk is full of torrent data, the cache is the wrong place to look.

What happens after you clear the Transmission cache

The next time you open Transmission, it rebuilds the cache as it runs, so the first start may take a little longer. Your transfer list should still show the torrents you added, because their copies and resume data are stored separately. Your settings and speed limits stay as they were. Files already in your download folder do not move. If something still looks wrong afterwards, the cache was probably not the cause.
