Clear Vivaldi Cache on Mac

To clear the Vivaldi cache, first check whether the app offers its own option and use it if it does. If it doesn't, quit the app and remove only the cache folder, which the app rebuilds automatically.

Vivaldi cache folders you can clear

These folders are rebuilt automatically, so removing them does not touch your own files.

Locations are the standard macOS folders Vivaldi uses; some appear only after you use the matching feature.

What the Vivaldi cache holds

Specific to Vivaldi

The cache folder holds copies of web pages, images and scripts that the browser saves so sites load faster. Other cache data sits in the profile folder, including the GPU shader cache and offline caches that websites store through service workers. Those are rebuilt automatically. The profile itself holds history, bookmarks, notes, mail, passwords and extensions, which is your own data and is not part of the cache. Clearing usually helps when pages load stale content, the interface feels slow, or the cache folder has grown large.

What changes after clearing the Vivaldi cache

The first start after clearing is slower, because the app rebuilds its cache as you browse. Most of the cache returns automatically in the background, so you do not need to do anything. If you sync with a Vivaldi account, bookmarks, notes, passwords and settings come back once you sign in. Local mail, calendar and feed data were never in the cache, so they stay exactly where they were.

Account and sync
A Vivaldi account syncs bookmarks, notes, passwords and settings; local mail, calendar and feed data may exist only in the profile.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Folders marked “Yes, rebuilt automatically” are rebuilt automatically; removing them only makes the next start slower.
Will my Vivaldi mail and calendar disappear?
No. Local mail, calendar and feed data live in the profile, not the cache, so clearing the cache leaves them in place.
How long does the slower first start last?
It lasts only until the cache rebuilds as you browse, so the slowdown is usually brief.
