What Vivaldi leaves behind

Specific to Vivaldi

Dragging the app to the Trash preserves separate folders containing your profiles, history, and passwords. Because it includes built-in mail, calendar, notes, and feeds, these directories often hold significantly more personal information than standard browsers, typically ranging from 200 MB – 2 GB. System files like preferences and various caches remain on your Mac until deleted manually via the hidden ~/Library folder.

Account and sync
A Vivaldi account syncs bookmarks, notes, passwords and settings; local mail, calendar and feed data may exist only in the profile.

Preparing to remove Vivaldi

Before deletion, ensure all essential information is backed up since removing the application does not touch your saved documents. Local mail and calendar data may exist only within the profile folder and will be lost if that folder is deleted. You should verify that your cloud synchronization is complete to avoid losing settings.

Frequently asked questions

Not all of them. Folders marked “Back up first: your data” hold your own Vivaldi data: back them up before removing them. Folders marked “Yes, rebuilt automatically” are rebuilt automatically; removing them only makes the next start slower. Folders marked “Yes, settings reset” hold settings, which return to their defaults.
Will emptying the Trash remove my profile data?
No, because the profile resides in ~/Library/Application Support/Vivaldi rather than the Applications folder.
Can I restore the app if I change my mind?
Yes, items in the Trash can be restored until the Trash is emptied.
