What Apple Keynote leaves behind

Specific to Apple Keynote

Dragging the app to the Trash does not remove its associated data folders or your personal documents. Because the app is sandboxed, settings, custom templates, and autosaves remain in its container. Presentations stored in iCloud Drive also persist independently. Shared data used by Pages and Numbers remains in a group container, which should be kept if either of those apps is still installed.

Account and sync
Keynote is free with an Apple Account; presentations saved to iCloud Drive stay in iCloud after the app is removed.

Preparing to remove Apple Keynote

Before removal, ensure all work is secured because some files exist only as temporary autosaves. You should verify that your presentations are located in Documents or iCloud Drive. Custom templates and untitled projects must be handled manually within the app. These remaining data folders typically occupy 200 MB – 2 GB of space.

Frequently asked questions

Not all of them. Folders marked “Back up first: your data” hold your own Apple Keynote data: back them up before removing them. Items marked “Only if no other app uses it” are also used by other apps from the same company; keep them while any of those apps is installed. Items marked “Yes, once the app is gone” only matter while Apple Keynote is installed, so remove them after the app.
Will my presentations disappear from iCloud Drive if I delete the app?
No, presentations saved to iCloud Drive stay there after the app is removed.
Where are the hidden library folders located?
The ~/Library folder is hidden and can be accessed via Finder > Go > Go to Folder.
