To remove the app, quit it and drag the icon to the Trash. However, this action alone does not delete your video projects or system configuration files.

What happens when you trash Camtasia

Specific to Camtasia

Dragging the application to the Trash leaves behind helper files, licenses, and user data. Your recordings and project files occupy 2 GB – 100 GB and remain in their dedicated folder. Settings and libraries stay in the TechSmith folder within Application Support, which should be kept if you use other software from the same company. These items persist because the app does not automatically remove personal documents.

License
Licences are tied to a TechSmith account or a software key.
Account and sync
Camtasia is activated with a TechSmith account or software key.

Preparing to uninstall Camtasia

Before removal, ensure all necessary work is finalized since raw screen recordings cannot be recreated. You should handle your license via your account or software key to allow movement to another machine. Backup custom library assets to avoid losing them permanently. Since the ~/Library folder is hidden, use Finder > Go > Go to Folder to access remaining support files.

Frequently asked questions

Not all of them. Folders marked “Back up first: your data” hold your own Camtasia data: back them up before removing them. Items marked “Only if no other app uses it” are also used by other apps from the same company; keep them while any of those apps is installed.
Why is there still so much disk space being used?
The app stores raw screen recordings next to project files, which often hold the most space.
Can I delete the TechSmith folder immediately?
Only if you have also uninstalled Snagit, as both apps share this directory.
