How to Completely Uninstall GoLand on Mac

To remove GoLand, either use the JetBrains Toolbox if it was used for installation or drag the app to the Trash. Dragging to the Trash alone does not delete configuration, logs, or cached data.

Remove GoLand and everything it leaves behind

GoLand data usually takes 1 GB – 20 GB on a Mac. The free scan shows the exact size on your Mac before you change anything.

GoLand has its own uninstaller

  1. Quit the app completely (⌘+Q in the menu bar).
  2. If installed through JetBrains Toolbox, uninstall it there; otherwise drag the app to the Trash and delete only the GoLand version folders in Caches, Application Support and Logs, since other JetBrains IDEs share those parents.
  3. Remove the folders GoLand left behind, listed in the table below.
  4. Empty the Trash to free up the space.

Locations are the standard macOS folders GoLand uses; some appear only after you use the matching feature.

What GoLand leaves behind

Specific to GoLand

The app stores between 1 GB – 20 GB of data in system folders that remain after deletion. Because each release creates its own versioned folder, old updates often leave unused gigabytes behind. These include separate directories for caches, logs, and settings within the Library. Only the GoLand version folders should be deleted manually to avoid affecting other products from the same company.

Background items
JetBrains Toolbox, if used, keeps its own app and settings under ~/Library/Application Support/JetBrains/Toolbox.
License
Commercial use needs a subscription tied to a JetBrains Account; after a year of an annual subscription a perpetual fallback license may apply.
Account and sync
Paid JetBrains IDEs are activated with a JetBrains Account; settings can also be synced to that account with Backup and Sync.

Preparing to uninstall GoLand

Ensure all work is saved before closing the app. Since your subscription is tied to your JetBrains Account, the license remains active regardless of local file removal. You should manage your account status and settings exports while the application is still running. Project files stay in their own folders and must be handled separately.

Frequently asked questions

Not all of them. Folders marked “Back up first: your data” hold your own GoLand data: back them up before removing them. Items marked “Only if no other app uses it” are also used by other apps from the same company; keep them while any of those apps is installed. Folders marked “Yes, rebuilt automatically” are rebuilt automatically; removing them only makes the next start slower. Folders marked “Yes, settings reset” hold settings, which return to their defaults.
Will deleting the app remove my Go modules?
No, the Go module cache resides in the Go toolchain rather than the IDE.
How do I find the hidden folders to finish the cleanup?
Use Finder > Go > Go to Folder to access the ~/Library directory.
