Clear it from inside GoLand first

The safest way is the option built into the app: File > Invalidate Caches, then restart; this clears only the current version's caches, not folders left by older releases or by other JetBrains IDEs.

GoLand cache folders you can clear

These folders are rebuilt automatically, so removing them does not touch your own files.

Locations are the standard macOS folders GoLand uses; some appear only after you use the matching feature.

What the GoLand cache holds and when clearing helps

Specific to GoLand

The cache holds indexes that GoLand uses for search and code completion, and it rebuilds them automatically. Clearing it helps when indexing keeps running, code completion gives wrong results, or old version folders pile up. Each release gets its own folder, so upgrades leave older caches behind. The Go module cache in your Go folder belongs to the Go toolchain, so this step does not touch it.

What happens after you clear the GoLand cache

On the next start, GoLand rebuilds its indexes from your projects, so the first launch and first project open can be slower. Projects stay in their own folders, and settings and plugins remain because they are kept apart from the cache. If the app asks you to sign in, use the JetBrains Account that activates your license. Older version folders are not removed, so delete them separately once the new cache works.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Folders marked “Yes, rebuilt automatically” are rebuilt automatically; removing them only makes the next start slower.
Does clearing the cache log me out of my JetBrains Account?
No. The cache holds indexes and temporary data, while your license and account sit outside it.
Why does the cache grow back?
The IDE rebuilds the cache as you work, so normal use fills it again over time.
