What Notion leaves behind

Specific to Notion

The app functions as a desktop wrapper, meaning it stores a chromium-style cache and local database in the Library. These files, ranging from 500 MB – 10 GB, include offline pages and window states that remain after the app is trashed. Because these reside in hidden system folders, they persist until deleted manually via Finder's Go to Folder menu.

Account and sync
Notion pages and workspaces are stored in your Notion account; the Mac app keeps a local copy for speed and offline use.

Preparing to remove Notion

Your workspaces live in the cloud, but the app maintains a local copy for speed. You should ensure all pending changes are synced to your account before removal. Once the app is fully closed, you can safely delete the remaining support folders without affecting your cloud documents.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Folders marked “Yes, rebuilt automatically” are rebuilt automatically; removing them only makes the next start slower. Folders marked “Yes, settings reset” hold settings, which return to their defaults. Items marked “Yes, once the app is gone” only matter while Notion is installed, so remove them after the app.
Will my pages be deleted if I remove the app?
No, because your pages are stored in your account in the cloud, not in a local folder.
Do I need to manually delete the ShipIt folder?
You can delete it to reclaim space, though it is rebuilt automatically if you ever return.
