Specific to Rectangle

Dragging the app to the Trash does not remove its supporting folders. Your shortcuts and snapping settings remain in a preferences file, while update checks stay in a cache folder. A separate directory in Application Support may hold a config file used for automatic imports.

License
Rectangle is free and open source; some extra features are sold separately as Rectangle Pro, a different app.

Preparing Rectangle for removal

Certain steps ensure a clean transition since the app requires specific system permissions. You should back up your custom layout settings before closing the software. To fully clear all traces, manually navigate to the hidden ~/Library via Finder > Go > Go to Folder.

Frequently asked questions

Not all of them. Folders marked “Back up first: your data” hold your own Rectangle data: back them up before removing them. Folders marked “Yes, rebuilt automatically” are rebuilt automatically; removing them only makes the next start slower. Folders marked “Yes, settings reset” hold settings, which return to their defaults.
Does uninstalling Rectangle also remove Rectangle Pro?
No, because Rectangle Pro is a different app with its own installation.
Will my settings be deleted if I empty the Trash?
No, the preference and support folders remain on your disk until removed separately.
