Clear pgAdmin Cache on Mac

Clearing the pgAdmin cache frees some space and can fix odd behaviour when stale data is the cause. Your server list survives, because it lives in the pgadmin4.db file, which is not part of the cache.

pgAdmin cache folders you can clear

pgAdmin has no separate cache folder. Its folders hold settings and your own data, so there is nothing to clear safely by hand.

What the pgAdmin cache holds

Specific to pgAdmin

The cache sits in ~/.pgadmin, the same folder that holds your own data. Inside it are sessions, storage and logs that pgAdmin rebuilds as it runs. Clearing helps when pages fail to load, the app behaves oddly after an update, or the folder has grown toward its typical 100 MB – 2 GB. The pgadmin4.db file, with your registered servers and settings, is not cache and stays where it is.

What happens after you clear pgAdmin's cache

The next time you open the app, it rebuilds the cache, so the first start will be slower than usual. Your servers and settings appear as before, because pgadmin4.db was left alone. You may be asked to sign in again, since session data was cleared. Your PostgreSQL databases are not affected, because the app never keeps them in this folder.

Frequently asked questions

Yes.
Will my saved servers disappear?
No. They are stored in pgadmin4.db, which clearing the cache leaves alone.
Can I clear the cache while the app is running?
It is better to quit first, so no files are in use while you work in the folder.
