Sourcetree cache folders you can clear

These folders are rebuilt automatically, so removing them does not touch your own files.

Locations are the standard macOS folders Sourcetree uses; some appear only after you use the matching feature.

What the Sourcetree cache holds and when clearing it helps

Specific to Sourcetree

The cache folder holds temporary data the app builds up while you work, so clearing it helps when views look stale or the app loads slowly. It also helps when you need disk space, since the app's data typically takes up 200 MB – 2 GB. Your bookmarks and account settings sit in the app's own support folder, not in the cache. Repositories stay in their own folders, because the app only keeps bookmarks to them. Check the app's own settings for a cache option first, since that is the safest route.

What happens after you clear the Sourcetree cache

The app rebuilds the cache automatically the next time you open it, so the first start may take a little longer. Your bookmark list, account settings and Git hosting logins are kept, so you should not need to set them up again. Window positions from the last session are also rebuilt automatically. Once the cache is back, the app should run as it did before. Any space you freed will be used again as the cache grows.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Folders marked “Yes, rebuilt automatically” are rebuilt automatically; removing them only makes the next start slower.
Will Sourcetree ask me to sign in again after clearing the cache?
Usually not, because your Atlassian and Git hosting accounts are stored in the app's own folder, which clearing the cache does not touch.
Can I clear the cache while Sourcetree is running?
It is better to quit the app first, so it does not write to the cache while you remove it.
