Clear ZBrush Cache on Mac

Clearing the ZBrush cache frees space and can reset the app's support data, but it only touches the support folder. Your projects, tools and quicksaves stay where they are.

ZBrush cache folders you can clear

ZBrush has no separate cache folder. Its folders hold settings and your own data, so there is nothing to clear safely by hand.

What the ZBrush cache holds and when clearing helps

Specific to ZBrush

The cache-related folder is ~/Library/Application Support/Pixologic/ZBrush, which holds support data such as settings or app data. Clearing it makes sense when the app has been acting strangely and you want to reset that data. Piling-up quicksave files are a sign the cache is growing, but those quicksaves are stored in the shared ZBrushData folder, not in this one, so clearing the support folder will not reduce them. Review that shared folder yourself before removing anything from it.

What happens after you clear the ZBrush cache

Once the support folder is removed, the settings or app data it held are gone, so any preferences you set may need to be set again. Your projects, tools and quicksaves are not in this folder and remain in place. The licence is tied to your Maxon account, so keep those sign-in details ready in case the app asks you to sign in again. If the app behaves differently afterward, check its own settings before clearing anything else.

Frequently asked questions

Yes.
How do I find the ZBrush cache folder if ~/Library is hidden?
In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder and enter the folder path shown in the table above. This opens the hidden Library folder directly.
Will my quicksaves disappear when I clear the cache?
No. Quicksaves and custom brushes are kept in the shared ZBrushData folder, which clearing the support folder does not affect.
