What 1Password leaves behind

Specific to 1Password

Dragging the app to the Trash does not delete its associated folders or your documents. It stores an encrypted local copy of your synced vaults and settings in a team-ID Group Container shared with its extensions. These remaining files typically occupy 200 MB – 2 GB. Because the license is attached to your account rather than the Mac, no activation files remain.

Background items
The browser extension can unlock with Touch ID through the desktop app; without the app it still works but asks for your account password.
License
The subscription is attached to your 1Password account, not to the Mac.
Account and sync
Vaults are stored in your 1Password account and sync to every device; the Mac holds an encrypted local copy.

Preparing to uninstall 1Password

Ensure your data is accessible elsewhere since the Mac only holds a local copy of your synced vaults. Without the desktop app, browser extensions will continue to work but will require your account password instead of Touch ID. To fully clear the system, manually navigate to the hidden ~/Library via Finder > Go > Go to Folder and remove the group container.
