How to Completely Uninstall Fork on Mac

Dragging the app to the Trash removes only the executable, leaving behind settings, caches, and repository lists in your Library. These files remain on your disk until you manually delete them, though your actual code repositories stay untouched in their original folders.

  1. Quit the app completely (⌘+Q in the menu bar).

Locations are the standard macOS folders Fork uses; some appear only after you use the matching feature.

What Fork leaves behind after deletion

Specific to Fork

Removing the application bundle does not automatically delete its support files or preferences. The app stores a small list of tracked repositories and settings in its Application Support folder, which remains on your system. Cached data and saved window states also persist in their respective Library directories. Since Fork only tracks repository locations, these leftovers are minimal but still occupy space.

License
Fork can be evaluated for free and is sold as a one-time license.

Preparing to uninstall Fork

Before removing the app, ensure any local changes are pushed to your remote server. If you plan to use another Git client, note the paths of your active repositories since Fork keeps only a list of them. You may also want to clear Git hosting credentials from your Keychain if you no longer need them. Once these steps are done, you can quit the app and proceed with removal.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Folders marked “Yes, rebuilt automatically” are rebuilt automatically; removing them only makes the next start slower. Folders marked “Yes, settings reset” hold settings, which return to their defaults. Items marked “Yes, once the app is gone” only matter while Fork is installed, so remove them after the app.
Do I lose my code if I uninstall Fork?
No, Fork only tracks repository locations; your actual code files remain in their original folders on your disk.
Will the app delete my settings automatically?
No, deleting the app leaves settings and repository lists in the Library until you manually remove those folders.
