Manual cleanup steps

  1. Quit the app completely (⌘+Q in the menu bar).
  2. Move Postman from the Applications folder to the Trash.
  3. Remove the folders Postman left behind, listed in the table below.
  4. Empty the Trash to free up the space.

6 locations. Tick each one as you remove it; back up anything marked as your data first.

Locations are the standard macOS folders Postman uses; some appear only after you use the matching feature.

What Postman leaves behind

Specific to Postman

Removing the app icon does not delete your local data, preference files, or the default working directory. It leaves behind several directories in your Library containing network caches, updated app components, and saved window states. Because these folders store your actual workspaces and request history, they remain on your disk until deleted separately.

Account and sync
Collections, environments and history are synced to your Postman account when you are signed in; what exists only on this Mac depends on whether you used it signed out.

Preparing your Postman data

Since data created while signed out exists only on your Mac, you must secure it before removal. Ensure all cloud-synced collections are visible online via your account. Any files located in the default working directory should be copied elsewhere to avoid permanent loss.

Frequently asked questions

Not all of them. Folders marked “Back up first: your data” hold your own Postman data: back them up before removing them. Folders marked “Yes, rebuilt automatically” are rebuilt automatically; removing them only makes the next start slower. Folders marked “Yes, settings reset” hold settings, which return to their defaults.
Where are my locally stored files kept?
By default, files used in request bodies are stored in ~/Postman/files.
Will my collections be deleted if I empty the Trash?
Collections synced to your account remain in the cloud regardless of local app removal.
