What Logic Pro leaves behind

Specific to Logic Pro

Dragging the app to the Trash does not remove associated data, which typically ranges from 2 GB – 100 GB. Your projects and personal presets remain in their respective music folders. Shared assets like the instrument library, Apple Loops, and impulse responses are kept because they are used by GarageBand or MainStage. Settings, key commands, and automatically rebuilt caches also persist in the library.

Account and sync
Logic Pro is bought through the App Store with your Apple Account and can be downloaded again.

Preparing to remove Logic Pro

Before deletion, ensure all custom work is secured since the app cannot manage these files once gone. You should verify if other compatible software still requires the shared sound libraries. Use the internal manager to handle large sound content downloads. Remember that the ~/Library folder is hidden and requires the Go to Folder menu to access.

Frequently asked questions

Not all of them. Folders marked “Back up first: your data” hold your own Logic Pro data: back them up before removing them. Items marked “Only if no other app uses it” are also used by other apps from the same company; keep them while any of those apps is installed. Folders marked “Yes, rebuilt automatically” are rebuilt automatically; removing them only makes the next start slower. Folders marked “Yes, settings reset” hold settings, which return to their defaults.
Will my project files be deleted if I trash the app?
No, projects saved to ~/Music/Logic are not removed when you delete the application.
Can I remove the shared sound library to save space?
Yes, but keep these folders if you still have GarageBand or MainStage installed.
