  4. Empty the Trash to free up the space.

3 locations. Tick each one as you remove it; back up anything marked as your data first.

Locations are the standard macOS folders OmniFocus uses; some appear only after you use the matching feature.

What OmniFocus leaves behind

Specific to OmniFocus

Dragging the app to the Trash does not delete your documents or support folders. Your task database, backups, and settings remain in sandboxed containers, occupying between 100 MB – 1 GB. These include separate containers for different versions and a sandbox script folder. You must manually remove these via the hidden Library folder to complete the uninstallation.

License
OmniFocus is licensed through an Omni account subscription, a license key or the App Store.
Account and sync
OmniFocus can sync through an Omni Sync Server account; without sync the database exists only on this Mac.

Preparing to remove OmniFocus

Because the app stores its entire database locally, deleting the containers will permanently erase any unsynced tasks. Ensure all data is uploaded to your Omni Sync Server account if you use one. Otherwise, manual backups are necessary since the database exists only on this Mac. Remember that custom perspectives are also part of this database.

Frequently asked questions

Not all of them. Folders marked “Back up first: your data” hold your own OmniFocus data: back them up before removing them. Items marked “Yes, once the app is gone” only matter while OmniFocus is installed, so remove them after the app.
Will my license be deleted?
No, your license remains active through your Omni account subscription, license key, or the App Store.
Where are the remaining files located?
They are in the hidden ~/Library folder, accessible via Finder > Go > Go to Folder.
