Locations are the standard macOS folders Raycast uses; some appear only after you use the matching feature.

What Raycast leaves behind

Specific to Raycast

The app stores user data, including an encrypted database of snippets and AI chats, along with extension code and settings in separate folders. These directories typically occupy 200 MB – 2 GB and remain on your Mac even after the main program is deleted. You must manually remove these via Finder > Go > Go to Folder using paths like ~/Library/Application Support/com.raycast.macos to fully clear all traces.

License
Raycast is free for core features; Pro features are a subscription linked to your Raycast account.
Account and sync
A Raycast account is optional for local use; Cloud Sync and AI features are tied to the account.

Preparing to uninstall Raycast

Since snippets and history are stored in one encrypted database, they cannot be recovered file by file after deletion. Ensure all cloud synchronization is complete if you use an account. Because subscriptions are linked to your account rather than the software, you must handle billing changes independently. Always exit the utility before attempting to delete its associated files.

Frequently asked questions

Not all of them. Folders marked “Back up first: your data” hold your own Raycast data: back them up before removing them. Folders marked “Yes, rebuilt automatically” are rebuilt automatically; removing them only makes the next start slower. Folders marked “Yes, settings reset” hold settings, which return to their defaults. Items marked “Yes, once the app is gone” only matter while Raycast is installed, so remove them after the app.
Will deleting the app also cancel my Pro subscription?
No, the subscription is linked to your account and must be cancelled separately.
Can I save just my snippets without keeping the whole database?
No, you must use the export feature because the data is stored together.
