How to Completely Uninstall Unity on Mac

To uninstall Unity completely, you must remove both the application and its associated data folders manually. Dragging the app to the Trash alone leaves behind license files, account data, and cached packages.

What Unity leaves behind

Specific to Unity

Moving the app to the Trash does not delete stored data, which typically ranges from 2 GB – 100 GB. Background helpers like the Hub manage separate editor versions and settings that remain in system folders. These include the global package cache, editor logs, and your Unity ID license file. Only manual deletion of these directories removes them from your Mac.

Background items
Unity Hub installs and manages editor versions separately.
License
The licence is managed through your Unity ID in Unity Hub.
Account and sync
Unity uses a Unity ID for licensing; projects are local unless using version control.

Preparing to remove Unity

Before starting, ensure you have secured your work since project folders are stored locally. You should handle licenses and version management within the interface first. Quit the software and its hub fully before attempting to move any files to the Trash. Access the hidden ~/Library via Finder > Go > Go to Folder to find remaining app data.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Folders marked “Yes, rebuilt automatically” are rebuilt automatically; removing them only makes the next start slower. Folders marked “Yes, settings reset” hold settings, which return to their defaults. Items marked “Yes, once the app is gone” only matter while Unity is installed, so remove them after the app.
Will deleting the app also remove my projects?
No, projects are saved in folders you chose and must be deleted separately.
Do I need to manually delete the package cache?
You can, but these files are rebuilt automatically if you ever reinstall.
