Clear GitKraken Cache on Mac

Clearing the cache empties three folders that the app rebuilds on its own, which frees space and can fix display or loading problems. Your repositories, profiles and settings stay where they are.

GitKraken cache folders you can clear

These folders are rebuilt automatically, so removing them does not touch your own files.

Locations are the standard macOS folders GitKraken uses; some appear only after you use the matching feature.

What the GitKraken cache holds

Specific to GitKraken

The cache sits in the Electron folder inside Application Support, in three subfolders: Cache for web content, Code Cache for compiled JavaScript, and GPUCache for graphics shaders. All three are rebuilt automatically, so the app does not need them kept. Clearing them helps when the app shows stale or broken screens, fails to load after an update, or when you need space; total data for this app typically runs 500 MB – 5 GB. The dotfolder in your home folder holds profiles, settings and account data, so leave it alone.

What changes after you clear the GitKraken cache

The first launch afterwards may take a little longer, because the app recreates its cache files as it runs. Repositories stay in their own folders, and clearing the cache does not change them. Profiles and settings in the home dotfolder are not touched, so you should not need to set them up again. Paid features still depend on your account plan, which clearing the cache does not affect.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Folders marked “Yes, rebuilt automatically” are rebuilt automatically; removing them only makes the next start slower.
Can I clear the cache while the app is open?
It is better to quit the app first, since removing files from a running app can leave cache files half written. Quitting first also avoids errors when the app tries to read them.
Will my repositories show up again after clearing?
Yes. Repositories live in their own folders, and clearing the cache does not change them.
