Clear Tower Cache on Mac

Clearing the Tower cache removes temporary files that the app rebuilds on its own, so it is a reasonable first fix when the app feels slow or shows stale information. It does not remove your bookmarks, settings, accounts or repositories. Only the cache folder is involved, and it is recreated the next time you open the app.

Tower cache folders you can clear

These folders are rebuilt automatically, so removing them does not touch your own files.

Locations are the standard macOS folders Tower uses; some appear only after you use the matching feature.

What the Tower cache holds and when clearing helps

Specific to Tower

The cache folder for Tower holds temporary app data, and it is rebuilt automatically, so nothing in it needs to be kept. Clearing it is worth trying when the app feels sluggish or displays outdated information. Your bookmarks and account data are stored in a separate folder, and your settings are in a preferences file, so leave both alone. If the app offers a way to clear its cache from inside the app, use that option first.

What happens after you clear the Tower cache

Tower rebuilds the cache automatically the next time it runs, so no manual step is needed. The first launch and the first time you open a repository may be slower while the cache fills again. Your bookmarks to repositories stay in place, and your repositories themselves are never touched. Service accounts are kept with the app data, so you should not need to add your Git hosting accounts again. If the app asks you to sign in to your account, use the account you normally use.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Folders marked “Yes, rebuilt automatically” are rebuilt automatically; removing them only makes the next start slower.
Do I need to add my Git hosting accounts again?
Usually not, because service accounts are stored with the app data rather than in the cache. If a hosting service asks for credentials, enter them once and the app will keep them.
How long does the cache take to rebuild?
It rebuilds on its own during normal use, so you do not need to wait for it. The only visible effect is a slower first start while it fills again.
