How to Completely Uninstall Airmail on Mac

To uninstall Airmail completely, you must remove both the application and its associated library folders. Dragging the icon to the Trash alone leaves behind sandboxed data and scripts.

What Airmail leaves behind

Specific to Airmail

Because the app is sandboxed, its local mail cache, attachments, and settings are stored in a dedicated container rather than within the app bundle. These folders, along with sandbox scripts, remain on your Mac after the application is deleted. This leftover data typically ranges from 500 MB – 10 GB. You must manually navigate to the hidden ~/Library folder using Finder > Go > Go to Folder to remove them.

License
Airmail Pro is a subscription through the App Store and is not cancelled by deleting the app.
Account and sync
Airmail reads mail from your mail server accounts; IMAP and Exchange mail stays on the server.

Preparing to remove Airmail

Since the app reads from IMAP and Exchange servers, your emails stay on the server and will return in another client. However, ensure all accounts are server-based before proceeding. You must also handle your subscription separately, as deleting the software does not stop billing. Finally, ensure the process is fully closed before attempting to delete the container.

No, you must cancel Airmail Pro through your Apple Account subscriptions.
Why is the remaining data folder several gigabytes in size?
